New Year's Eve 2011 - Sing Out for Marie Curie
Over 100 members of the CCI Millennium Chorus celebrated a very special New Year’s Eve, in the beautiful setting of Cartmel Priory.
They rehearsed from 8pm until 10pm, singing:
Brahms: How Lovely is thy Dwelling Place, O Lord
Bruckner: Locus Iste
Faure: Cantique de Jean Racine
Mozart: Ave Verum
Parry: Blest Pair of Sirens.
Everyone contributed to an excellent buffet, which they enjoyed before the audience arrived for the concert, which took place from 11.15pm until midnight.
Ian Jones conducted the rehearsal and the concert, and Adrian Self accompanied on the organ. David Smethurst introduced the evening with a prayer. Between the choral pieces, David Hunt read ‘Journey of the Magi’ by T. S. Eliot, ‘Ring out Wild Bells’ by Tennyson and ‘Blest Pair of Sirens’ by Milton.
This was a ‘Sing Out for Marie Curie’ Concert and the large audience, together with the Chorus, raised over £500 for the charity, to be used in the local area.
